First held in 1840, the Royal Adelaide Show is staged by the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society of South Australia. Having started as a simple show of local produce such as wheat and barley, it has grown to become one of the biggest community events in South Australia. It still has strong connections to its original routes with livestock exhibitions, growing competitions and traditional displays, but the event now also includes fairground rides and children's entertainment. And for the adults, there is the popular 'Wine Tunnel' offering visitors the chance to try a selection of some of Australia's best wines. Another popular aspect of the show is the showbags which are filled with gifts, food items and souvenirs of the event.

Organised under the Confederation of Australian Sport's (CAS) charter of 'Sport for All'; the biennial Australian Masters Games provides sporting opportunities exclusively for people over the age of 30. Regardless of background or ability, the games are open to all players over 30 years of age with the aim of fostering a lifelong participation in sport. Events range from sailing and softball to beach volleyball and BMX biking, so the Games really do have something for everyone and provides great entertainment for both participants and spectators. The event attracts over 10,000 participants from all over Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Oceania in a celebration of mature age sport. Over the 10-day period, there are about 50 different team and solo sport events to enjoy. But let's not pretend it's all about sport because the occasion is equally famous for its lively social events ranging from Gala Dinners to nightclub evenings
