The airport is located 30km (19 miles) from central Shanghai.
Airport News
Work is under way on the underground metro line no. 2, which will link Pudong and Hong Qiao International airports. This should be completed by 2010, in time for the World Expo.
Driving Directions
Yingbin Road, which runs through the airport, and Fareast Road, which is west of the airport, respectively link to Shanghai’s outer and inner ring roads. The outer ring road joins Pudong International Airport to Hong Qiao International Airport (journey time - 1 hour). The inner ring road leads to the People’s Square/Shanghai city centre.
Car Parking
There is a three-floor multi-storey car park with space for over 3,000 vehicles and a surface car park for short- and long-term parking in front of the terminal building.
Car Hire
Self-drive cars are available, although most visitors choose to hire a car with a driver (often from their hotel) on a daily or weekly basis.
Public Transport
Rail: The Maglev Train, a magnetic levitation train and the fastest in the world, connects the airport with metro line no.2 at Longyang station (journey time - 8 minutes). Trains run every 15 minutes between 0700-2100The station is situated next to the airport and is connected to the terminal by a bridge. Work is under way on the underground metro line no. 2, which will link Pudong and Hong Qiao International airports. This should be completed by 2010, in time for the World Expo.
Bus: There are several bus routes which serve different areas of Shanghai. Airport bus 1 connects Pudong International Airport with Hong Qiao International Airport (journey time - 30-40 minutes). Other routes run to City Air Terminal (Jingan temple), Galaxy Hotel, Hongkou Football Stadium, Zhongshan Park, Lingang Xin Cheng and Shanghai South Railway Station. A hotel shuttle also links the airport with the Okura Garden Hotel downtown (tel: (021) 6834 6612).
Taxi: Taxis are available and passengers should make sure the driver uses the meter; passengers must join the correct queue for the desired destination; queues are determined by journey duration (journey time to Shanghai - 25-40 minutes).
Information and Help Desks
Flight information in English is available within the terminal. The airport has a flight and general information line (tel: (021) 3848 4500). Information counters are located in front of both the Domestic and International security checks.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: The airport has several banks, bureaux de change, as well as a post office, ATMs, telephones and Internet access.
Eating and drinking: There are various restaurants, coffee shops and bars.
Shopping: Shops at the airport include gift shops and duty-free in the Departures hall. There is a shopping mall on the third floor of the terminal.
Luggage: Left-luggage is available in both terminals. A lost and found office can be found between Gates 8 and 9 in International Arrivals (tel: (021) 6834 6324).
Other facilities: There are baby change/feeding rooms. There is a pharmacy in the shopping mall, on the third floor, and nursing rooms in both terminals. Transit beds are available on an hourly basis (see Hotels below).
Conference and Business Facilities
There is a business centre located between International and Domestic Arrivals, providing telephones, fax and Internet facilities (tel: (021) 6834 6519). There is also a VIP room, as well as several lounges operated by various airlines at the airport. Jinjiang Inn Pudong Airport Hotel (tel: (021) 6835 3568) offers 24-hour business facilities, including various meeting rooms, telephone, fax and photocopying facilities. The Ramada Pudong Airport Shanghai Hotel (tel: (021) 3849 4949; www.ramadaairportpd.com) also has large meeting and business facilities, including a ballroom accommodating up to 280.
Facilities for Disabled Travellers
There are disabled toilets as well as lifts and ramps to provide easy access for disabled travellers. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel. TDD telephones are available in the passenger terminal.
Hotels
The Jinjiang Inn Pudong Airport Hotel (tel: (021) 6835 3568) and the Ramada Pudong Airport Shanghai Hotel (tel: (021) 3849 4949 or 6885 2886; www.ramadaairportpd.com) are both on site. There is also a hotel charging by the hour in the Domestic Arrival Hall. The Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong (tel: (021) 5830 6666; www.ichotelsgroup.com), the InterContinental Pudong Shanghai (tel: (021) 5835 6666; www.shanghai.intercontinental.com) and the Purple Mountain Hotel (tel: (021) 6886 8888; www.pmhotel.com.cn) are located a bit further away in Pudong.
