The airport is situated in Santa Ana, California, 56km (35 miles) south of Los Angeles.
Driving Directions
The airport can be reached from the I-405, MacArthur Boulevard exit, or from SR55 (southbound), which has a dedicated exit.
Car Parking
Car parks A1, A2, B1 and B2 (tel: (949) 252 5200) are located next to and opposite the terminal. Curbside valet parking is available on the upper level roadway. Car parking is also available at the Airport Main Street car park (located between Red Hill Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard); courtesy shuttles transport passengers to/from the Main Street car park. All vehicles entering the airport car parks are subject to a police search.
Car Hire
Car hire companies at the airport include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty, with desks on the lower level (Arrivals). Other local operators are located off-site.
Public Transport
All services are located in the ground transportation centre, which is located on the lower level, directly in front of the terminal.
Bus: Southern California Gray Line (tel: 1 800 828 6699, in the USA; http://graylineanaheim.com) serves the area. In addition to this, Orange County Transportation Authority (tel: (714) 636 7433) runs bus 76 from Huntington Beach and Newport Beach via Talbert Avenue/MacArthur Boulevard and bus 212 from Irvine to San Juan Capistrano via the 405-Fwy.
Shuttle: Numerous shuttle companies also operate from the airport and include Super Shuttle (tel: 1 800 258 3826, in the USA; www.supershuttle.com) and Xpress Shuttle (tel: 1 800 427 7483, in the USA; www.xpressshuttle.com). Shuttle buses leave from the lower level of the ground transportation centre and take passengers to their destination.
Taxi: John Wayne Airport Yellow Cab Service (tel: 1 800 535 2211, in the USA) have taxis seating up to five people and vans seating up to seven. Fares are metered although flat rates to destinations may be provided upon request.
Information and Help Desks
There are two information booths located on the lower level. Otherwise use one of the white courtesy telephones and dial (949) 252 5200 for information. Ambassadors or 'red coats' are also on hand to provide assistance.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: ATMs can be found in the baggage reclaim area on the lower level and on the upper level (Departures) near gate 4 and gate 11. Please note that there are no currency exchange facilities at the airport. Telephones can be found throughout the terminal.
Eating and drinking: There are two fast-food outlets, as well as numerous restaurants, bars, cafes and outlets selling croissants, sweets and cookies.
Shopping: Gift shops and newsagents are located on the upper level (Departures).
Luggage: There is no left-luggage facility. Trolleys are available for a small fee. For lost property call (949) 252 5000.
Other facilities: There are two members-only lounges on the mezzanine level, and an art gallery on the Departure level.
Conference and Business Facilities
There is no dedicated business centre at the airport, but conference and business facilities are available at various nearby hotels, including the Hilton Irvine Hotel (tel: (949) 833 9999; www.hiltonirvinehotel.com), which offers a business centre, meeting rooms and a secretarial service; facilities include audiovisual equipment for hire, a business phone service, mobile phone hire, postal services, fax, modem, office hire, photocopying and printing. In the airport itself, the United Airlines Red Carpet Club (tel: (949) 252 5736) and the American Airlines Admirals Club (tel: (949) 852 5470) are membership-only VIP lounges, which offer conference facilities. These are located on the mezzanine level next to gates 7 and 8.
Facilities for Disabled Travellers
Wheelchair assistance is available free on request; passengers are advised to contact their airline in advance. TDD telephones are available on the Arrivals and Departures levels and flight information monitors display visual pages; the airport operator (tel: (949) 252 5200) can also assist with services for disabled travellers. White courtesy phones are also situated throughout the terminal. Extra wide parking spaces are available in car parks and a loading bay is available on the Arrivals and Departures levels. There are also lifts near the baggage reclaim escalator and near gates 1A and 14A. Orange County Transportation Authority buses are suitable for disabled travellers.

There are no hotels at the airport. However, the Hilton Irvine Hotel (tel: (949) 833 9999; www.hiltonirvinehotel.com) is situated within walking distance and the Courtyard Irvine Marriott Hotel (tel: (949) 757 1200; www.marriott.com) and the Residence Inn Irvine John Wayne Airport (tel: (949) 261 2020; www.marriott.com) are both located about 2km (1 mile) from the airport. Other nearby hotels include the Newport Beach Hotel (tel: (949) 640 4000 or 1 800 228 9290, in the USA; www.marriott.com) and the Best Western Orange County Airport North Hotel (tel: (714) 432 8888; www.bestwestern-oc.com). Many hotels offer a courtesy shuttle service to/from the airport.
