The airport is situated at Flesland, 20km (12 miles) south of Bergen.

Major expansion and modernisation, aimed at significantly increasing capacity at Flesland, is being planned. The first phase is scheduled for completion in 2011.

Driving from the airport into the centre of Bergen is straightforward. Head east on the R580/E39 and then follow the road north to ‘Sentrum' (City Centre). It is well sign-posted. The drive takes around 25 minutes (depending on traffic).

There are around 3,500 parking spaces at the airport, 1,500 of which are under cover. The garage is located close to the terminal and offers both short-term and long-term parking spaces. Long-term parking is cheaper in the outdoor car parks. For more information call EuroPark (tel: 2205 3470).

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt offer car hire from the airport. Desks are located in the terminal, and cars can be supllied ready heated and ice-free in winter.

Bus: The bus journey to Bergen takes 40-50 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Airport Buses (tel: 177; www.flybussen.no) depart every 15 minutes from 0600 to 2100, with less frequent services before and after those hours and at weekends. The buses drop passengers at the bus station and at main hotels in town.
Taxi: Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall. Companies serving the airport include Bergen Taxi (tel: 07000), Norgestaxi (tel: 08000) and Taxi 1 (tel: 5550 0037).
Water: High speed Flaggruten ferries (tel: 5523 8700; www.hsd.no) operate between Bergen and a number of coastal destinations in the region. Bergen Minibuss Service (tel: 5599 8610; www.bergen-minibuss.no) runs scheduled links to these from the airport.

There is an information office/service centre (tel: 5599 8155) in the terminal offering travel advice to passengers.

Money and communications: A bank, an ATM and currency exchange machines are available in the terminal. Wireless Internet access and Internet terminals are also available.
Eating and drinking: Food and drink are available from several cafes, bars and snack shops throughout the terminal.
Shopping: There are several shops at the airport, including a duty-free shop and shops selling newspapers and snacks.
Luggage: Luggage lockers are available for hire from the information/service centre (tel: 5599 8155). The centre should also be contacted regarding lost or found items. A porter service is also available at the airport (tel: 5599 8240).
Other facilities: Travel agency VIA Travel (tel: 5554 3630) is located near the main entrance. Baby changing facilities are available on all floors.

There are no airline business lounges (only a comfort zone between the check-in area and security). The De Syv Fjell conference centre (tel: 5599 7400) has telephone and fax machines and five meeting rooms for up to 35 people. The airport's service centre also offers fax and copying services.

Accessibility is good at the airport. There are parking spaces reserved for disabled travellers in the parking house near the terminal. Toilets and lifts can accommodate wheelchairs. Travellers with special needs are advised to notify their airline before travelling. The Clarion Hotel (see Hotels below) has room designed for disabled travellers.

The Clarion Hotel Bergen Airport (tel: 5610 0000; www.clarionbergenairport.com) opened at the airport in 2007. It is connected to the terminal by a covered walkway. The Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg (tel: 5598 0000; www.qualityinn.com), Scandic Bergen Airport Hotel (tel: 2161 4400; www.scandic-hotels.com/bergenairport) and Thon Hotel Bergen Airport (tel: 5592 0000; www.thonhotels.com/bergenairport) are all located within easy reach of the airport.
