The airport is situated 7km (4 miles) north of central Cairns.

The airport is currently in the process of implementing a A$200 million improvement programme focusing on the domestic terminal.
Transfer Between Terminals
The terminals are located 250m (820ft) apart, and are connected by a covered walkway.
Driving Directions
From Airport Avenue, turn left at the traffic lights onto Sheridan Street and stay on it for approximately 5km (3 miles) to reach central Cairns.
Car Parking
There are 130 parking spaces by the international terminal and 356 parking spaces by the domestic terminal. Both short-term and long-term parking spaces are located adjacent to the passenger terminals. Parking bays for the disabled are located in front of the departures and the arrivals doors.
Car Hire
The following car hire companies are available at the airport: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Red Spot and Thrifty.
Public Transport
Bus: Australia Coach/Sun Palm Express (tel: (07) 4087 2900; www.australiacoach.com) operates an airport shuttle bus service to hotels and the city centre, as well as to the Northern Beaches, Palm Cove, Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation. Pick up is in front of the arrivals area at both terminals and both operate an information desk within the terminals. Staff are on site to greet every major inbound flight.
Shuttle: Most of the hotels in the region operate their own courtesy coach service to and from the airport.
Taxi: Free taxi telephones are located in the arrival halls and the taxi ranks are immediately outside.
Information and Help Desks
Both the domestic and international terminals feature accommodation boards with direct dial phones. There is currently no manned tourist facility at the airport.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: ATMs are located in the arrival and departure areas of both terminals. Currency exchange booths are located within the baggage reclaim area and in the public arrivals hall as well as in the departure lounge of the international terminal. Post boxes are available in both terminals. Internet services can be found at both terminals, within the departure lounge in the domestic terminal and both inside and outside the departure lounge in the international terminal.
Eating and drinking: Several restaurants, coffee shops and bars can be found in both terminals.
Shopping: The departure lounges in the domestic and international terminals have shops offering a wide range of items from gems and jewellery, souvenirs, arts and crafts products and other gift items to fashion clothing, designer surf wear, sunglasses and clothing and equipment for trips to the outback. There are duty-free shops and newsagents in both terminals as well.
Luggage: Baggage storage is available at the terminal. Smart Carte Australia (tel: (03) 9338 3111; www.smartecarte.com) can assist with baggage storage needs. Porterage service is available.
Other facilities: Toilets, showers and baby care facilities are located both landside and airside in both terminals. First aid rooms are available in both terminals.
Conference and Business Facilities
There are no conference or business facilities at the airport. Internet access is available in both the domestic and the international terminal.
Facilities for Disabled Travellers
Facilities for people with physical disabilities include lifts, toilets and reserved parking spaces.

There are no hotels at the airport, but all the many central Cairns hotels can be reached within minutes. The nearest option to the airport is the Comfort Inn City Sheridan (tel: (07) 4051 3555; www.citysheridan.com.au).
