Albuquerque tours and excursions
Albuquerque tours
Several companies offer hot-air balloon rides, including Skyspan Adventures, which provides complimentary shuttle service, light breakfast, local sparkling wine, flight certificate and a commemorative pin.
A number of professional tour operators offer trips of all types around the city and region, from hot-air balloon rides to pueblo tours. A good place is the Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau, which has information on tours and tour groups as well as free self-guided itineraries on everything from Route 66 to exploring the Sandia Mountains. Most of New Mexico's 19 pueblos are within two hours' drive of Albuquerque.
A ghost tour through Old Town Albuquerque by Tours of Old Town details stories of vengeful lovers, murdered soldiers and mysterious spectres.
The Arts Crawl is a self-guided tour through local galleries held the first Friday of each month; you can also obtain information on visiting galleries at other times from the website.
Excursions from Albuquerque
The National Scenic Byway runs from Albuquerque to Santa Fe through the majestic Sandia Mountains and past revived ghost towns. A state-designated scenic and historical route, the trail runs along NM 14, beginning about 26km (16 miles) east of central Albuquerque and continuing about 98km (61 miles) to Santa Fe. En route is the Cibola National Forest, former mining towns filled with art and crafts, Tinkertown Museum, Museum of Archaeology, Old Coal Mine Museum and Turquoise Mining Museum.
The park lies 28km (19 miles) miles east of Albuquerque in Edgewood, on I-40. The 122-acre park features trails through constructed natural habitats. Wildlife includes whitetail deer, bobcats, cougars, coyotes, raptors, mountain lions and wolves.
