Flying to Anguilla

With no direct flights to Anguilla, visitors from the UK tend to fly via Antigua (British Airways and Virgin Atlantic) and then make the local transfer by LIAT or on a small charter plane. BA also fly in to San Juan in Puerto Rico, from where Cape Air (tel: (508) 771 6944, www.capeair.com) and Anguilla Air Express (tel: (264) 498 5056, www.anguillaairexpress.com) have daily schedules to the island. From North America most visitors fly to St Maarten (American Airlines, Continental Airlines, United Air Canada) and then take a boat across to the island. It is also possible to fly via Puerto Rico.

Charter companies that run planes between Anguilla and neighbouring Caribbean islands include Trans Anguilla Airways (tel: (264) 497 8690; www.transanguilla.com) and Anguilla Air Services (tel: (264) 498 5922; www.anguillaairservices.com).

Flight times:

From London to Anguilla to is 10-12 hours (including a stopover in Antigua), and from New York is 6 hours.

Departure tax:

US$20. Children under 12 are exempt.

Getting to Anguilla by boat

A regular public ferry operates 0700 - 1800 each day at least once an hour between Blowing Point in Anguilla and Marigot on the French side of St Martin.

Cruise ships:

Star Clipper visits Anguilla, though it has to stand offshore. Larger ships can dock in St Maarten and offer day trips across to Anguilla.
