Argentina Events

This nationwide public holiday is marked throughout the country with celebrations a plenty. Families gather together, and parties and live music pop up everywhere. The annual event marks the date July 9, 1816, when the Congress of Tucuman passed a resolution declaring Argentina’s independence from Spain.

During late September and early October, thousands of thirsty visitors arrive in Córdoba to swig beer and be merry at this popular festival. The event has taken place every year since 1963, set up originally by German immigrants. It is a large tourist draw and always promises a lively atmosphere.

Listen to delightful classical music at this much loved festival at the Llao Llao Hotel near Bariloche. It has been going since 1993, and is an opulent affair in a refined setting and fabulous food. It offers a great contrast to the rustic joviality of typical Argentine music events.

See the village of Tilcara in Jujuy province come alive with a welcoming party atmosphere and boundless celebrations. The festival is traditionally for the villages to thank the earth for its produce. Festivities last nine days, at the end of which the devil is symbolically hidden away in a rock covered hole until festival time the following year.

Officially called Día del Veterano de Guerra y de los Caídos en la Guerra de las Malvinas (the Day of the Veterans and Fallen of the Malvinas War), Malvinas Day is an annual public holiday commemorating the country’s fallen soldiers in the Falklands War in 1982.
