The Gallery of Modern Art, which is situated near George Square and Buchanan Street in the centre of Glasgow, is home to the city’s principal modern art collection. Glasgow’s most recent major art gallery, which opened in 1996, houses an impressive selection of Glasgow’s post-war art and design, including work by international artists, such as Andy Warhol and David Hockney, and by Scottish artists, such as Ken Curry and John Bellany. The collection is housed in the Stirling Library in the historic Royal Exchange Square and spread over four floors, encompassing work themed around the four elements: earth, fire, air and water. Highlights include the artist Beryl Cook’s paintings 'By the Clyde' and 'Karaoke', and the Scottish artist Avril Paton’s painting 'Windows in the West'.
