Hollywood Walk of Fame
Closest Hotels to Hollywood Walk of Fame:
In 1958, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was envisioned as a means of enshrining the memory of the Hollywood greats, with the first star being laid for the actress Joanne Woodward on February 9 1960. Today, it is the defining emblem of Los Angeles and one of its most popular tourist attractions. Two hectares (five acres) of bronze stars, embedded in pink and charcoal terrazzo squares, honour famous luminaries from the world of cinema, including Elvis Presley, John Travolta, Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra. The Walk of Fame takes visitors on a tour of Hollywood’s entertainment industry, passing in front of the famous Mann’s Chinese Theatre, where stars have literally made their mark, with their hand- and footprints. Visitors to Hollywood will undoubtedly also want to see the famous Hollywood Sign. Standing some 15m (50ft) tall and 137m (450ft) wide, this internationally renowned sign, which is located in the Hollywood Hills, was erected in 1923 by a property developer who wanted to advertise new homes in the area. It is one of the most photographed structures in the world, symbolising for many people all the glitz of the Hollywood film industry.
