Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which is the principal art gallery and museum in the city of Glasgow, is one of Scotland’s most popular free attractions. The imposing late-Victorian, red sandstone building, which opened in 1901, houses an impressive display of archaeology, natural history and ethnography, including European armour, prehistoric relics and military weapons. It also houses a wide range of European paintings by Botticelli, Rembrandt, Millet, Monet, Van Gogh, Derain and Picasso. On permanent show is the Glasgow 1900 exhibition which exhibits paintings, furniture and decorative art objects dating from Glasgow at the turn of the 20th century. The main attraction at Kelvingrove is a room dedicated to the works of the 19th-century architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh who studied at the famous Glasgow School of Art.
