The Acropolis is one of the most famous sites of the ancient world and a symbol of Greek civilization. It is the site of three different temples dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of Athens, the most famous of which is the internationally-renowned Parthenon. Completed in 438 BC, its broad flank of Doric columns is synonymous with ancient culture throughout the world. Built entirely of marble that glows at sunset, the Parthenon once housed a statue of Athena. Visitors can also see the Propylaea constructed in 437-432 BC, the Temple of Athena Nike (the Goddess of Victory), the Erechtheion Temple, and the Acropolis Museum, which houses many treasures from the Acropolis.
