Attraction Information
Old Port of Montréal (Vieux Port de Montréal)
Closest Hotels to Old Port of Montréal (Vieux Port de Montréal):
The Old Port is located in the historic heart of the cosmopolitan, francophone city of Montréal. It was once the sea-trading hub of North America and in the first half of the 20th century was the second largest port in North America after New York. After port operations declined in the late 1950s, the Canadian government decided to redevelop the area, and it is now a thriving arts and entertainment venue, visited by five million people each year. The port is surrounded by the city’s original 17th century walled fortifications and the activities on offer reflect both the area’s illustrious past and its modern, forward-looking philosophy. The Clock Tower offers excellent views across the city and houses an exhibition tracing the city’s history.
