Raffles Hotel
Closest Hotels to Raffles Hotel:
Opened in 1887 by four Armenian brothers, the Raffles Hotel is one of the few remaining original grand hotels of the East. This world-famous hotel, which was named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore, began life as a modest bungalow. Over the years, it has welcomed many famous guests, including Rudyard Kipling, Joseph Conrad and Charlie Chaplin, attracted by the hotel’s luxury and elegance. Today, the hotel continues to attract the rich and famous, and a recent S$160-million facelift has ensured that it has the trappings of modern luxury yet retains the unique charm of the colonial era. Tourists regularly flock to drink afternoon tea in the Tiffin Room and enjoy a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar. The hotel was declared a National Monument in 1987.
