Closest Hotels to Belfast Zoo (Zoological Gardens):
The origins of Belfast Zoo date back to 1911 with the creation of the Bellevue Gardens that were designed to provide the city of Belfast with a recreational area with gardens and a playground for children. In 1934, Bellevue Zoo was added to the site. After some years in decline, in 1974 the area underwent a massive redevelopment project to create the popular zoo that exists today. The zoo has a strong emphasis on conservation and education and zoo works closely with schools and youth groups. Popular sections of the zoo include the Monkey Island, the African and Elephant Enclosures, the Penguin and Sea Lion Pools, the Gorilla Enclosure and the Children’s Farm where younger visitors can get close to traditional farm animals. The site is located at Cavehill which offers stunning views back across the city.
