Melbourne Airport is currently investing AUD$300 million (£187 million) in expansions and improvements to the Terminal 2 complex. A new concourse is already open, and work is expected to last until late 2011.
The airport operates a Travellers Information Desk (tel: (03) 9297 1805), located in the International Terminal Arrivals area, which is open at all times during flight operation hours. There is also an information desk in the Departures area.
The terminals are all located within the same complex and are linked by walkways.
From Melbourne city centre, take the CityLink toll road; this becomes the Tullamarine Freeway, which leads to the airport.
Public Transport
Bus: SkyBus (tel: (03) 9335 2811; www.skybus.com.au) operates daily 24 hours between the airport and the city centre (journey time: 20 minutes). A number of public bus services connect the airport with destinations around Melbourne. Information on routes served and schedules is available from the information desks in the terminal building or from the contact details listed on the airport's website.
Taxi: Taxis are available from the ground floor level of the terminal building, in front of the South Terminal and the Qantas Terminal (journey time into Melbourne: 30 minutes).
Terminal facilities
Bureaux de change and ATMs are located in the International Terminal. Paid-for Wi-Fi Internet access is widely available in the terminals.
A variety of cafés and restaurants are available throughout the airport.
Airport shopping includes duty-free in the International Terminal, including nine speciality GST-free stores and the Downtown Duty-Free outlets, open daily.
Left-luggage facilities are available in the International Terminal Arrivals hall. Terminal 1 lost property issues (tel: (03) 8336 4100), are dealt with separately from those in the rest of the airport, which are handled by the Travellers' Information Desk (tel: (03) 9297 1805).
Showers are available in the International Terminal Departures area. Baby-change facilities are available throughout the airport. There is also a prayer room and a medical practice in the International Terminal.
Airport facilities
Conference facilities, meeting and boardrooms, and a fully serviced business centre are provided by the Hilton Melbourne Airport (tel: (03) 8336 2000; www.hilton.com), and by the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport (tel: (03) 9933 5111; www.ichotelsgroup.com) There is also a number of airline lounges for departing passengers.
Wheelchair-accessible toilets, travelators and lifts are provided throughout the airport. Wheelchairs are available via the airlines on request; passengers should inform their airline in advance or contact the Travellers Information Desk (tel: (03) 9297 1805). There is a text telephone on the ground floor of the International Terminal, in the Arrivals area. Disabled parking is available.
The airport has both long- and short-term car parks, as well as two Business Park facilities. All operate daily 24 hours. Short-term parking is located in the multi-storey car park immediately in front of the passenger terminals, connected by covered walkways. A free shuttle bus runs from the long-term parking lot to terminals, daily 24 hours. The multi-storey car park Business Park South offers undercover parking with direct access to the terminal via sheltered walkways. Companies include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot and Thrifty; they have information desks in the domestic terminals and offices on the ground floor of the short-term car park.
Airport hotels
Hilton Melbourne Airport has direct pedestrian access to the South Terminal and International Terminal at Melbourne Airport. Among the facilities at the hotel is a 24-hour gym, a selection of meeting rooms and an on-site restaurant.
Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport is close to the terminals at Melbourne Airport and runs a shuttle bus service to the airport. The hotel has a 24-hour business centre, 'Park, Stay and Go' parking facility and an on-site restaurant.
Motel Formule 1 Melbourne Airport is a short walk from Melbourne Airport, on Caldwell Drive; rooms are charged at a standard rate and can accommodate up to three people.
