Flying to Brunei

Flights to Brunei are served by Royal Brunei Airlines (BI) (www.bruneiair.com) the national carrier.

Flight times:

A flight from London to Brunei, with a short stop in Dubai, takes 17 hours. From Los Angeles to Brunei takes at least 24 hours, including stopovers in Tokyo and Singapore.

Departure tax:

Br$5 for flights to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching; Br$12 for all other destinations. This is payable in local currency in cash, at the airport check-in desk.

Driving to Brunei

Driving to Brunei from the Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah is a breeze thanks to the excellent Pan Borneo Highway. Bus services to and from Brunei are handled by Jesselton Express (to Sabah; tel 673 718 3838) and PHLS (to Miri; tel 673 277 1668).

Getting to Brunei by boat

The main port is Muara. Water taxis link Bandar Seri Begawan with the Malaysian towns of Limbang and Lawas. Car ferries connect Muara's Serasa Ferry Terminal with Menumbok and Pulau Labuan, both in Malaysia.

About a dozen cruise ships dock at Muara each year.
