Santiago

Walking Tours
Highly regarded tours of the city centre are offered by Santiago Adventures (tel: (02) 244 2750; website: www.santiagoadventures.com), taking in the key religious and cultural monuments in downtown Santiago. Chip Travel (tel: (02) 737 5649; website: www.chiptravel.cl) offers a quirky, unusual tour of the city - the 'Historical Memory' tour takes in the site of Villa Grimaldi among other places.

The Santiago Tourist Office (tel: (02) 632 7783/5; website: www.municipalidaddesantiago.cl) runs free walking tours of the city, but only once a week (Monday at 1030). Bilingual (Spanish and English) guides are sometimes available. For those who are happier to wander about under their own steam, Cerro Santa Lucía and Cerro San Cristobál are the best places to start. Hiking trails, landscaped gardens and fine panoramas can be found on both.
