It opened in 1928 and is one of the top three most successful regional theatres in the United Kingdom, with audiences of more than 400,000 each year. It puts on an impressive programme of musicals, ballet, traditional pantomime, opera and comedy acts. They also serve decent food and there is usually a disco after the comedy acts.
