Walking Tours
Southampton is relatively easy to explore on foot, with all the main attractions concentrated around the city centre and harbour areas. Free guided heritage tours run every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday morning at 1030 and at 1430 during the month of August. They start from the historic Bargate. Private walks can be arranged through the Southampton Tourist Guides Association (www.stga.org.uk) and are available in several languages – contact the organisation for more details. The Tourist Information Centre has a range of booklets about self-guided walks, including the Titanic Trail.

Boat Tours
For a city so intimately connected to the ocean, no trip to Southampton is complete without heading out on a boat trip. Blue Funnel Ferries (tel: (023) 8022 3278; www.bluefunnel.co.uk) offer public and private charters along Southampton's waterways.

Other Tours
Taxi company West Quay Cars (tel: 0700 0700 0700; www.westquaycars.com) offers a range of tourist services and sightseeing tours.
