Stockholm Hotels
Sales tax at 12% is automatically added to the bill. Tipping of porters is common, although tipping for room service is not expected.
Prices in Stockholm go down by as much as 50% in summer and at the weekend in winter, so it is always worth checking whether a hotel has a special offer on.
The hotels below have been grouped into four different pricing categories:
$$$$ (over Skr2,400)
$$$ (Skr1,800 to Skr2,400)
$$ (Skr1,200 to Skr1,800)
$ (up to Skr1,200)
The prices quoted are the lowest standard rates for a double room in winter, including sales tax.
Luxury
Berns is one of the most exclusive places to stay in Stockholm. The 65 rooms (including four suites) marry modern Scandinavian design with the beauty of the building's belle époque architecture. There are fluffy white bathrobes, CD players, satellite TV and hairdryers in all rooms. Seven conference and meeting rooms are available with flexibility in numbers and facilities; the 1,200-capacity China Room is particularly impressive. There is also a business centre with fax and Internet facilities. The hotel's restaurants and bars have undergone a Terence Conran-aided makeover. The Clock Suite is legendary and a favourite of younger, trendier celebrity.

This hotel is housed in the old Crown Prison on Långholmen. It opened in 1989 after two years of restoration. The former cells are now comfortable rooms with TV and free Wi-Fi access. There are 89 single and 13 double rooms, of which 10 have facilities for the disabled. The old prison entrance hall has been converted into a reception, with a cafeteria open 24 hours a day.
