Zagreb's nightlife is primarily student orientated, with the highest concentration of small bars and cafes lining the pretty street of Tkalčićeva in Gornji Grad. Those in search of something more sophisticated might try either Hemingway, Tuškanac 1, or Škola, Bogovićeva 7, both chic lounge-bars serving cocktails.

Real ale drinkers would do better to head to either Pivnica Medvedgrad, Božidara Adžije 16, or K Pivovari, Ilica 222, both Central-European-style beer halls attached to breweries. For drinks with a view, head away from the city centre to the Vertigo Bar at the Hotel Antunović, Zagrebačka Avenija 100A.

The B P Club, Nikole Tesle 7, is a relaxed jazz venue with regular live music, while jazz, blues, rock and pop all feature on the packed schedule at Sax!, Palmotićeva 22. Dance the night away at Gjuro II, Medveščak 2, or join the glamorous crowd at Saloon, Tuškanac 1, a see-and-be-seen spot attracting a smattering of Croatian celebrities.
