The city's longest established business hotel is an enormous and ugly high rise but it is extremely well equipped and is in the ideal location for culture vultures, close to museums, galleries and Caracas' main concert hall.

This squeaky clean business stopover has uniformly comfortable rooms and pleasant English-speaking staff. It is located in a shopping centre but has the pick of dozens of excellent restaurants, cafés, bars and nightclubs on its doorstep.

Helpfully located by the Metro station in a significantly safer area than downtown, this ageing hotel has faded but spacious rooms with good views over the lively plaza in front or a beautiful garden behind. Bring earplugs for traffic noise.

This simple hotel is smack bang in the heart of the historic district, overlooking Plaza Bolívar. The rooms are frill-free but the rooftop restaurant is a treat. Be back before 2100 as the area is dangerous at night.
