Kuwait City Excursions
There are some beautiful sandy beaches surrounding Kuwait City, some of which are located within holiday resorts such as the Hilton Kuwait Resort (tel: 2372 5500; www.hilton.com) in Mangaf. Al-Jahra, 32km west of Kuwait City, makes a half-day excursion. Site of the Gulf War's infamous ‘turkey shoot' - the Allied destruction of a retreating Iraqi convoy, the town's only sight today is the Red Fort, a rectangular, mud structure near the highway. The surrounding area is pretty in spring when the desert briefly turns green after the winter rains.
Nearby, in Doha Village, is Entertainment City (tel: 2487 9545), located 20km from Kuwait City and comprising theme parks, miniature golf course, lake, small zoo and restaurants.
