Public Transport

Buses are the only form of public transport available in Cannes and a number of companies provide transit services. These include Beltrame (tel: (04) 9349 6090), Bus Azur (tel: 0825 825 599; website: www.busazur.com), CTM Cannes La Bocca (tel: (04) 9390 9292) and STU de Cannes Bus Azur (tel: (04) 9345 2008). The Handibus service is good for disabled people.

You can buy tickets on the bus. It is also possible to buy a carnet of 10 tickets and a week pass - these can be purchased at the coach station or on the bus.

Taxis

Taxis are reliable and arrive within about five minutes anywhere in the city centre. Drivers are generally honest and will usually discuss the stars they have chauffeured. Taxis can be hailed at taxi stations or ordered by telephone from Allo Taxis Cannes (tel: 0890 712 227; website: www.taxicannes.fr). Tipping is not expected but is appreciated.

Driving in the City

Driving in Cannes is rarely a frustrating experience. Traffic jams are few and far between, there are several car parks surrounding the city centre and orientation is relatively easy - the rue d'Antibes is one of the few one-way streets. Since the works at boulevard Carnot, which now leads from the Croisette to the entrance to the motorway, access to and from the city has improved. There is only one major pedestrianised street - the rue Meynadier. The only times that tourists should beware of driving in Cannes, is during the film festival, when roads are blocked from 1800 onwards, and during major congresses.

Car Hire

Operators include Ada (tel: (04) 9706 0707; website: www.ada.fr), Avis (tel: 0820 611 635; website: www.avis.fr) and Hertz France (tel: (04) 9399 0420; website: www.hertz.fr). The minimum age for hiring a car is 21 years, although drivers may have to be 25 years old to hire the more expensive models. Driving licences and credit cards are required. Insurance is usually included but it is advisable to check.

Bicycle Hire

Bicycles can be hired from Mistral Locations, 4 rue Georges Clémenceau (tel: (04) 9339 3360; website: www.mistral-location.com).

Boat Hire
Yachts and other boats may be hired from Camper & Nicholsons, Port Camille Rayon (tel: (04) 9704 1050; website: www.cnconnect.com), or Cannes Nautic, port la Napoule Mandelieu (tel: (04) 9393 0767; website: www.cannesnautic.com).
