Brisbane Excursions
Brisbane is an excellent gateway for exploring southeast Queensland. An hour outside the city, Brisbane Forest Park (tel: 1300 723 684, in Australia only; www.epa.qld.gov.au), is a favourite day trip for bushwalking.
South of Brisbane is beautiful Moreton Bay, peppered with some 365 islands. The two most visited islands are Moreton Island (tel: 1300 667 386, in Australia only; www.more2redlands.com.au or www.moretonbayislands.com.au) where you can feed dolphins and dive shipwrecks, and picturesque North Stradbroke Island (tel: (07) 3415 3044; www.stradbroketourism.com), an increasingly popular holiday destination.
At the other end of the spectrum are the neon lights of the Gold Coast (tel: (07) 5569 3380; www.verygoldcoast.com.au), a 35km (22-mile) stretch of sun, surf, sand and hedonistic shenanigans.
