Brisbane Shopping
For boutique shops and gourmet delis head to Emporium,1000 Ann Street, in Fortitude Valley. Milton Park Road is the place to head for designer labels, while New Farm boasts good galleries and Paddington a smattering of antique shops. The Museum of Brisbane Store, King George Square, is an excellent place to get your hands on works by emerging local artists.
There are markets aplenty in Brisbane, from arts and crafts to those geared specifically for tourists. Brunswick Street Markets, Brunswick Street Mall, gets going at the weekend and is filled with stalls selling creations by up-and-coming designers. The Powerhouse Farmers Market takes place on the second and fourth Saturday of the month and sells delicious fresh produce. The somewhat alternative Green Flea Community Market is wonderfully low key and sells just about everything - from bric-a-brac to organic foods.
Shops are usually open Monday to Friday 0900-1730, but close at 1700 on Saturdays and 1600 on Sundays. Late night shopping is on Friday, when shops stay open until 2100.
