Phoenix is known for its many malls and boutiques, and one doesn't have to go far to shop here. Unique brass bells, some made right on the premises, pack Cosanti, 6433 Doubletree Ranch Road in Paradise Valley. Get authentic cowboy hats and boots at Saba's Western Wear (several locations, check website: www.sabaswesternwear.com) and find handmade Native American arts and crafts at Gilbert Ortega Gallery of Indian Art, 7155 East Fifth Avenue, Scottsdale.

Art galleries crowd Old Town Scottsdale, while unique jewellery and clothes geared to 20-somethings line Mill Avenue in Tempe. Or you can find anything and everything at Scottsdale's three main malls: Biltmore Fashion Square, 2404 East Camelback Road; Scottsdale Fashion Square, 7014 Camelback Road; and Kierland Commons, 15044 North Scottsdale Road.

Store hours vary but in the large malls, opening times are Monday to Saturday 1000-1600 or 1700, and Sunday 1100 or 1200-1800. Sales tax is 5.5%.
