Stavanger - Getting Around
Public Transport
There are frequent fast boat services to Byøyene, Usken and Hommersåk, the various islands that are located quite close to Stavanger. A ferry service to Vassøy departs every hour from early morning until late in the evening. All boats leave from the area around Fiskepirterminalen in Stavanger.
Stavangerske (tel: 5186 8780; website: www.stavangerske.no) operates fast boats to Sauda, Kvitsøy, Jørpeland and other places in the South West region.
There are various kinds of travel cards and passes available. For tourists the most relevant are the Flexipass and the Short Time Period Pass. The Flexipass gives access to all public buses and boats for one month. Only one person can use the pass at any one time before 1700 during the week, but after 1700 and at the weekend two adults and three children can travel on just one pass at the same time. It gives access to all buses in the North Jæren area as well as to the boats going out to Byøyene, Usken and Hommersåk. If discounted travel for a shorter period is desired, the Short Time Period Pass is probably the best option. It offers unlimited public bus travel within the whole of Rogaland county on a daily basis.
