Plenty of roads lead to Stavanger. Not all of them are of motorway standard, but they tend to offer some spectacular scenery as compensation, whether it is of a Norwegian fjord or of the coastline.

From the Oslo region in the east of Norway, one can get to Stavanger either by first going west along the E134 and then heading south to Stavanger along the beautiful Highway 13 (‘Fjordvegen' - The Fjord Road), or by going via Kristiansand and following the E39 from there to Stavanger. A more scenic alternative from Kristiansand would be to follow the coastal road, Highway 44.

From Bergen and Haugesund it is easiest to take the E39N south to Stavanger - a journey that involves one ferry crossing.
