The largest shopping centre in Norway, Kvadrat, can be found in Sandnes, 15km (9.5 miles) to the south of Stavanger. It is one of the big attractions in the region and has 160 shops and stores as well as 18 restaurants, post office, bank, a tourist information and one of Vinmonopolet's (The Norwegian Wine Monopoly's) outlets. (Strong beers as well as all alcoholic wines and spirits are only sold by the state monopoly in Norway. The number of outlets has increased a lot over the last decade, so it is generally not too difficult to get hold of either wines or spirits.)

The biggest shopping centre in Stavanger itself is Stavanger Storsenter, Klubbgaten 5. It has 71 shops, is located in the heart of the centre with entrances from the Town Square, the Cathedral Square and the St Petri Church and is used as a pedestrian passageway to the surrounding areas.

MagasinBlaa, Verksgaten 2, and Straen-senteret, Lars Hertervigs gate 6, also have central locations and more than 20 shops each. The latter has the only self-service Wine Monopoly outlet in Stavanger. All of these shopping centres have fashion stores with big international brand names as well as a wide variety of other shops selling everything from furniture, gadgets and electronic equipment to music, books and games. Old Stavanger is a good part of the city to seek out for arts and crafts items from the region.
