Stavanger Sightseeing
Sightseeing Overview
Other attractions in the region surrounding the city include the medieval Utstein Monastery and the three crosses at Hafrsfjord, marking the spot where the battle that decisively led to the unification of Norway took place in the early Middle Ages.
Within the city itself the medieval Stavanger Cathedral with its exceptionally well preserved exterior is a must-see, and the same goes for Old Stavanger with its narrow streets and many wooden houses.
Several of the city's museums, such as the Norwegian Petroleum Museum and Stavanger Maritime Museum, are also of interest. Rogaland Art Museum with its lovely location by the Mosvann Lake is also recommended, and for a less conventional but arguably more fun experience, check out the Norwegian Museum of Childhood.
