Cusco

Cusco offers a wider range of better-quality souvenirs than anywhere else in Peru. First stop should be the Centro Artesanal at the southern end of Avenida Sol. San Blas is Cusco's artisan quarter and there are a number of workshops here worth visiting, including Taller Olave, Plaza San Blas 651, Taller Mérida, Carmen Alto 133, and Taller Mendivil, Plaza San Blas, all of which sell striking artefacts, sculptures, colonial religious images and icons, ceramics and earthenware.

The best jeweller is Carlos Chaquiras at Triunfo 375, although Ilaria at Portal Carrizos 258 is also good. Textiles are on sale at the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco, Avenida Sol 603A, whilst antique and new ponchos can be bought from Trendas Museo on the Plaza de Armas and Alpaca clothing from Werner and Ana, Plaza San Francisco 295A, or Alpaca III, Plaza Regocijo 202. Maky, Carmen Alto 101, and La Mamita, Portal de Carnes 244, have fine ceramics and pottery for sale.

Standard hours are Monday to Saturday 0900-1800. Shops are often open on Sunday too, but for more limited hours.
