Dom Tonho
The most expensive restaurant on the Cais da Ribeira (the Porto riverfront), Dom Tonho is also the best. A famous restaurant in Matosinhos to the west of Porto, O Gaveto has served up fresh fish and seafood for 25 years. On offer is Portuguese and international cuisine with a local twist and the chef always aims to bring out the best in the fresh ingredients from the sea nearby.

Solar Moinho de Vento
This is a typical Porto restaurant serving local specialities in the traditional way. The fish soup, baked codfish and the Oporto-style tripe (tripas à moda do Porto) are all delicious and served in generous portions. The queen of fado music, Amalia Rodrigues, once performed here.

Chez Lapin
A rustic restaurant on the quayside in Porto, Chez Lapin serves up hearty local fare in a warm, cosy atmosphere. Prices are reasonable, the local dishes are all good, the location by the river is great, and not surprinsingly, it is very popular.

Meson de Tapas
An excellent place for a quick bite to eat or a more extensive meal, the Meson de Tapas is located in the basement of the El Corte Inglés store in Vila Nova de Gaia. It offers a wide selection of genuine and very flavoursome Spanish tapas as well as larger dishes.
