Country Club Lima Hotel
Enjoy a traditional country hotel in the heart of a hectic city. Guests are treated to 5-star accommodation, as well as the use of the 18-hole, par 72, golf course across the road. Built in 1927, the ‘country club' is now a national monument, but with modern facilities, including a gym, business centre and adjacent outdoor pool. There's contemporary art on the walls and even English style ‘high tea'.

Hostal Mami Panchita
This friendly, family-run (Peruvian and Dutch) hotel is in a historic, colonial-style house with a comfortable patio and lounge. It's in a good location, in a peaceful suburb between Miraflores and the city centre. Ask for local advice and for tours run by the hotel. This is an excellent budget option.

Hotel Antigua Miraflores
In a pretty, pink, century-old mansion, Antigua not only has character, but very reasonable prices, especially for the upmarket district of Miraflores. Marble floors, antiques and free Wi-Fi complement a range of rooms, including some with kitchenettes and baths. Choose one of the front-facing rooms, which have more history and offer a bit more comfort than the more modern ones at the back. The service is both personal and professional. This is a popular option, so book early.

Los Conquistadores Lima
Stay here for spacious, clean rooms in a quiet, yet convenient location. This hotel provides good value and friendly service, with a bar and business centre. There are also wheelchair accessible rooms. While functional and rather lacking in atmosphere, the place never seems too crowded, making for a peaceful stay in the city.

Miraflores Park Hotel
Right on the seafront in Miraflores, this is perhaps the best hotel in the city. It really lives up to its five stars with luxurious facilities, including a spa, matched by excellent service. Breakfast by the rooftop pool is one of the highlights. Just as good for those on business as for those on honeymoon, although the accommodation doesn't come cheap. From here, it's just a short taxi ride to the historic centre.

Sonesta Posada del Inca El Olivar
In the quiet, upmarket embassy district with a rooftop pool, El Olivar has the atmosphere of a country hotel. Part of a successful chain, it was named after the park of olive trees that surround it. Rooms vary (some are very small) but many have plant-filled balconies with views of the park. Popular with business visitors, the hotel has a full business centre, but it also has a spa and is close to the swish boutiques and restaurants at the Camino Real mall. The staff are generally friendly and efficient.
