Lima Tours of the City
Because of the pollution and the enormity of Lima, it is best to avoid lengthy walking tours. A good agent is Lima Tours, Calle Belen 1040 (tel: (01) 619 6900; website: www.limatours.com.pe). It is a good idea to concentrate on a small area and enjoy stopping off in local cafes for coffee and churros (cylindrical doughnuts).
Bus Tours
Private bus tours through Lima Tours (see above) depart daily from the city centre. These take in the main squares as well as key attractions, such as the cathedral, a colonial mansion and the Miraflores and San Isidro suburbs. The Urbanito (tel: (01) 225 6462) bus departs several times an hour from the main square. Tours are in Spanish only and take approximately one hour and a half.
