Housed in a 14th-century cloister previously occupied by Benedictine nuns, La Compagnie des Comptoirs established its Avignon branch in 2001. Restaurant Christian Etienne
The restaurant's eponymous chef, a ‘Maître Cuisinier de France' (Master Chef of France), specialises in a style of cooking he calls 'régional inventif', with an emphasis on seafood and game. The simple set menu is good value, but rarely as ambitious as the more expensive menus on offer. The restaurant enjoys an enviable location next to the famous Palace of the Popes.
