Typical products include Sicilian carts (although these are perhaps a little cumbersome to bring home), painted pottery and objects made from copper or tin bought in the ancient Via Calderai. Quality products made by true craftsmen will make original presents that reflect the city's culture and tradition. The most popular by far are the pupi (puppets) that are such a big part of Palermo's cultural life (see Culture). Head for Corso Vittorio Emanuele where several workshops are located and you may see a marionette come to life.

Immerse yourself in the best of the city's atmosphere at the Vucciria Market (see Key Attractions), between Via Roma and Corso Vittorio Emanuele - make sure you get there early in the morning to see the market at its liveliest.

Designer gear is for sale on the smart Via Libertà, which is lined up with Italian and European labels such as Cartier, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermés and Louis Vuitton.
