Hotels in Copenhagen
With a number of new openings and some renovations, hotels in Copenhagen have greatly improved. And as the city is so compact, most hotels are located within walking distance of the centre.
The Copenhagen hotels below have been grouped into three different pricing categories:
Luxury (over Dkk1,500)
Moderate (Dkk800 to Dkk1,500)
Cheap (up to Dkk800)
These prices are starting prices for a double room, inclusive of all taxes and breakfast.
71 Nyhavn
This trendy Copenhagen hotel is set in picturesque Nyhavn, a canalside area that teems with bars and cafés. The hotel has 150 rooms and suites and occupies two 19th-century warehouses originally used to store spices and other goods from the Far East. The wood-beamed ceilings and the charming Old World ambience, which make the hotel so special, have been retained. Early booking is essential to secure one of the rooms facing the waterfront, while the waterfront corner suites are particularly sought after.
Admiral Hotel
Located right on the waterfront, where picturesque old schooners and yachts moor, the 4-star Admiral Hotel is situated in a listed warehouse building dating from 1787. Much remains of the original warehouse with its metre-thick brick walls, archways and ancient beams of Pomeranian pine. All 366 rooms are furnished in solid teak. They all have modem points, state-of-the-art radio and TV systems with video-on-demand, and internet. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the hotel. SALT is the name of the bar and the restaurant where chef Rasmus Møller Nielsen offers traditional Danish fare.
Axel Hotel Guldsmeden
Located in Vesterbro, close to Tivoli Gardens, the Axel Hotel Guldsmeden is a delightful boutique hotel that offers luxury accommodation without the guilt (it's got excellent green credentials) or the hefty price tag. The 129 Balinese-style rooms and suites all boast Persian rugs, wooden floors, four-poster beds, as well as flatscreen TVs and DVD players. The hotel's focus on sustainability is evident throughout, from the low energy bulbs to the bamboo furniture, while organic food and signature toiletries are offered. There is a spa too, and a cosy patio for warm summer days.
Clarion Collection Hotel 27
With its central location, its funky black, white and red colour scheme and three watering holes on the premises, Hotel 27 appeals to a trendy young crowd. The 200 modern, functional rooms are minimalistic but feature comfy beds and flatscreen TVs. Good news for those travelling on a budget - buffet-style dinner is included in the price of the room. Breakfast time can get busy, particularly at weekends, so if you want to secure a table in the stylish restaurant, get down early otherwise the bar may have to do.
Copenhagen Island
This ultramodern hotel opened its doors in 2006 on a man-made island in Copenhagen's harbour. It has 325 air-conditioned rooms featuring Wi-Fi access and flatscreen TV, plus a fitness centre and an exciting restaurant, The Harbour, with stunning views.
Danhostel Copenhagen City
Danhostel Copenhagen City is Europe's largest design hostel, decorated by Danish design company GUBI, which has also created furniture for the Museum of Modern Art. This hostel truly offers low-cost accommodation with style. The 15-floor building also provides great views of Copenhagen and is within walking distance of the city centre. Shared and private rooms available, with shower and/or toilet. Ideal for families, or groups travelling on a budget.
First Hotel Kong Frederik
This 4-star hotel is located on the site of a 14th-century pub and until recently it served that very purpose. These days, First Hotel Kong Frederick is something of a local secret - a very comfortable, atmospheric place to stay in the city centre, just a stone's throw from City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen). Each of the rooms are unique, although the same English country-house feel remains throughout.
Hotel d'Angleterre
The Hotel d'Angleterre is regarded as Copenhagen's finest hotel, offering a world of elegance and traditions from a bygone era combined with modern comfort. Royalty, presidents, film and pop stars often stay at this 5-star hotel, which is centrally located next to the busy Strøget pedestrian thoroughfare in a 17th-century building. Modern features include modem points in all rooms for high-speed internet access, the Arndal Spa and Fitness Centre, and knowledgeable concierges.
Hotel Fox
Decorated by 21 young artists who were pretty much given carte blanche, Hotel Fox feels more like an art gallery. All 61 rooms have been furnished differently - there is one inspired by a 1960s thriller, for example, while another has been decorated in Japanese manga style. A fun hotel for stylish city slickers. or
Radisson SAS Royal Hotel
This 260-room, 5-star hotel was originally designed by the world-renowned Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1960. It has since been stylishly refurbished, while retaining the spirit of Jacobsen. The suites are among the best in town with impressive views over the city skyline, while the Alberto K gourmet restaurant offers outstanding Danish-Italian cuisine.
The Square
This 3-star hotel takes its name from its location by the Town Hall Square. Many of the 267 modern rooms have excellent views of the square, and all rooms have private toilet, shower or bathtub, hairdryer, telephone, minibar, trouser press, TV and high-speed internet access. There is a lovely breakfast restaurant on the sixth floor with a perfect view of Copenhagen.
