Guyana Travel Advice

You should exercise caution when travelling in Guyana. In 2008 there were several major attacks by armed criminal gangs resulting in multiple murders. Similar attacks  in the future cannot be ruled out. Armed robbery levels remain high. 

Guyana is extremely vulnerable to flooding. During periods of heavy rainfall visitors, especially those going to low-lying areas, including Georgetown, should take precautions and follow local advice.The risk of terrorism is low but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.
