Most visits to Guyana are trouble-free, but crime levels are high especially in Georgetown and towns in the coastal regions. Since January 2008, there has been an upsurge in violent criminal activity. Visitors to the eco-tourism sites (outside of Georgetown and the coastal regions) generally experience no problems.
The risk of terrorism is low but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.
