Getting There by Air

The national airline, TAP Air Portugal (TP) (www.flytap.com), operates services to Funchal and Porto Santo from various European cities including London via Lisbon. There are internal flights between Funchal and Porto Santo.

From London to Funchal is 3 hours 40 minutes.

Main Airports

Madeira International Airport (FNC) is 16km (10 miles) from Funchal. To/from the airport: Taxis are available. An Aerobus runs between the airport and Funchal; TAP passengers use the service free of charge.

Porto Santo (PXO) is served by flights from Funchal and Lisbon. To/from the airport: Taxis are available.

Getting There by Water

Main port: Funchal.

Naviera Armas (tel: 902 456 500; www.navieraarmas.com), a new ferry service, started operating in 2008, with sailings between Portimão, in the Algarve on mainland Portugal, and Funchal. The boats, which depart weekly from June to September, offer additional services to Las Palmas and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Funchal is also served by major cruise lines. Ferry services from Madeira to Porto Santo take between two and three hours depending on weather conditions.
