Getting There by Water
Naviera Armas (tel: 902 456 500; www.navieraarmas.com), a new ferry service, started operating in 2008, with sailings between Portimão, in the Algarve on mainland Portugal, and Funchal. The boats, which depart weekly from June to September, offer additional services to Las Palmas and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Funchal is also served by major cruise lines. Ferry services from Madeira to Porto Santo take between two and three hours depending on weather conditions.
