Backpacker Hostels

There are numerous backpacker hostels and guest houses in Ulaanbaatar. All are locally owned and operated. Most offer additional services such as guided trips to the countryside and visa assistance.

Camping/Caravanning

There are numerous tourist ger camps spread throughout the countryside. The accommodation is in gers (round felt tents used by nomadic herders). In most cases, there are also restaurants, bars, toilets and showers. Ger camps are usually open from May to October. Tourists with their own tents have the opportunity to camp almost anywhere they want although there are restrictions in protected areas and it is advisable to avoid settlements.
