From New York to Las Vegas is 5 hours.

McCarran International (LAS) (website: www.mccarran.com) is situated 1.6km (1 mile) from the Strip, 8km (5 miles) from central Las Vegas. To/from the airport: The Citizens Area Transit (CTA), a service of the Regional Transportation Commission of Clark County, operates bus services to and from the airport. Routes 108 and 109 have direct access to the airport and stop on Zero Level, directly outside the arrivals and baggage claim area. CAT Paratransit Services is a shared public transport service in small buses for persons with disabilities who cannot independently use the regular CAT bus. There is no CAT bus service from the airport to the Strip. CLS Transportation and Gray Line both provide a reasonably priced service to the Strip and downtown hotels. Bell Trans (website: www.belltrans.com) operates a minibus service to the Strip and downtown Las Vegas, with Las Vegas Limousine and Showtime Shuttle operating similar services. The Airport Shuttle provides a door-to-door service. Shuttle/limo companies are located on the east side of baggage claim; hotel shuttles are often free for guests. Shuttle services to and from communities outside Las Vegas are also available; reservations are often required. Taxis are available on the west side of baggage claim. Facilities: ATMs, business service centre, and car hire.

Reno/Tahoe International (RNO) (website: www.renoairport.com) is located 6.5km (4 miles) southeast of the centre of Reno. To/from the airport: Local bus route 24 takes travellers into the city (journey time - 20 minutes). Taxis and limousines are available. Facilities: ATMs and car hire.

Amtrak (tel: 1 800 872 7245; website: www.amtrak.com) trains stop at Reno, 135 East Commercial Row, on the ‘California Zephyr’ line, which links Chicago with Emeryville (California). There is no Amtrak service to Las Vegas, although a Thruway bus service operates from the airport station (from the Charter Bus Area) and the Greyhound Station, 200 South Main Street.

Citizen’s Area Transit, Gray Line Tours of Southern Nevada, Greyhound, K-T Services and Ray & Ross Transport offer daily bus services.

Approximate bus journey times:
From Las Vegas to San Francisco is 14 hours 20 minutes, to New Orleans is 46 hours 20 minutes and to Miami is 60 hours 25 minutes.

Buses are operated by the Citizens Area Transit (CAT) (tel: (702) 228 7433); routes 301 and 302 run to the Strip from downtown Las Vegas. Privately run trolley services are also available. The Las Vegas Strip Trolley runs the length of the Strip. The Downtown Trolley serves the downtown casinos. The Meadows Mall Express Trolley runs a downtown route popular with shoppers. The Robert N Broadbent Las Vegas Monorail takes passengers along the 6km (4-mile) route from the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino to Sahara Avenue, stopping at a number of stations en route (journey time - 15 minutes). The second line, extending to Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, will be completed in 2007.

Taxis and limousines are also available in Las Vegas, and all major car hire companies are represented.
