Portugal Accommodation

Editor's Choice

The pousadas are a network of inns housed in historic buildings, castles, palaces and convents, or sometimes built especially for the purpose. They are often situated off the beaten track to give people the opportunity to visit the whole country. The pousadas have been carefully selected in order to give visitors a better knowledge of the architecture, cultural and culinary traditions of the various regions of the country. For a nationwide list of pousadas, visit www.pousadasofportugal.com.

Hotels

There is a wide range of accommodation available all over the country, ranging from luxury hotels, pensions, boarding houses and inns to simple guesthouses, manor houses, campsites and youth hostels.

Grading: Hotels are classified according to the international 1- to 5-star system and prices are officially approved. Apartment hotels are classified 2- to 4-star, motels 2- to 3-star and boarding houses 1- to 3-star (1-star is the best); there are also 4-star albergarias. During the low season hotels often grant substantial reductions. Children under twelve are usually entitled to a 50% reduction on the price of meals and an extra bed, if sharing a room/apartment with parents.
