Bologna (BLQ) (website: www.bologna-airport.it) is 125km (78 miles) from San Marino and Rimini (RMI) (website: www.riminiairport.com) is 27km (17 miles) from San Marino. Facilities: Bologna has duty-free shops, car hire, ATMs, bank and bureau de change and bar/restaurants. To/from the airports: Good bus services are available to San Marino.

Getting There by Rail

The nearest station is at Rimini. A funicular serves the capital and Borgo Maggiore. There are no internal railways.

Trenitalia (tel: 892 021; website: www.trenitalia.com) runs regular services covering national and international routes in Italy.

Getting There by Road

Routes to Italy run through Austria, France, Slovenia and Switzerland and most routes use the tunnels under the Alps and Apennines. From the UK, the quickest way to travel by car is via Eurotunnel to France (see France). Trenitalia runs regular daily services called auto al seguito (trains carrying cars), especially during the summer holiday season, covering national and international routes. These services operate from special railway stations and are generally bookable at the departure station. Owners must travel on the same train.

There are no border controls in San Marino.
