There are a number of hotels, motels and lodges in Honiara, but visitors are advised to make advance reservations. Accommodation is also available in Malaita, the Reef Islands and Western Solomons. A number of lodges and resorts on the islands offer a variety of leisure activities. Camping is rare and is best confined to more remote areas. Permission should always be obtained from the landowner, usually the village chief, before pitching a tent.
