Getting There by Water

Main ports: Palma (website: www.portdemallorca.com), Mahón and Ciutadella.

Balearia Eurolines Maritimes (website: www.balearia.net) operate car ferries and fast ferries from Dénia and Barcelona. Acciona Trasmediterránea (website: www.trasmediterranea.es) operate car ferries from Alicante, Barcelona and Valencia. Both also operate inter-island services. There are regular ferries from Ibiza to Formentera (journey time - 45 minutes).

Cruise ships also moor at Palma and Ibiza Town.

Getting There by Rail

On Mallorca a narrow-gauge train runs from Palma to Sóller (mainly for tourists), and from Palma to Inca (for locals). There is also a connection between Inca and Sa Pobla. Inter-Rail passes are not valid. There are no railways on any of the other islands.

Getting There by Road

There are generally good bus services on the islands connecting resorts with main towns.

Car
and scooter/motor bike hire is generally available. Bikes are useful for getting around the resorts. The steep, narrow inland roads sometimes make it difficult for coaches and cars to pass other than at special passing points.
