Main Airports

Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) (website: www.slcairport.com) is located 6km (4 miles) west of the city centre and 4 minutes west of Temple Square. To/from the airport: The Utah Transit Authority (website: www.utabus.com) operates a daily service (route 50) between the city centre and South and West Temple via the airport; other bus services are also available: bus 53 runs between the city centre and Tooele/Grantsville via the airport, while bus 56 runs from the airport to West Valley. Redtail Aviation offers flights into Moab from the surrounding areas. Taxis, limousines and vans are readily available. There are Ground Transportation Information desks in both terminals, where hotel courtesy cars can be arranged. Facilities: ATMs, business centre and car hire.

Getting There by Rail

Salt Lake City is on Amtrak’s daily 'California Zephyr' line (tel: 1 800 872 7245; website: www.amtrak.com), which links Chicago with Emeryville (California). The station is located at 340 South 600 Street West; car hire is available. Other Utah destinations on this service are Green River, Helper and Provo.

Getting There by Road

Greyhound (tel: 1 800 231 2222; website: www.greyhound.com) is the main carrier.

Approximate bus journey times:
From Salt Lake City to Las Vegas is 8 hours 30 minutes, and to Los Angeles is 15 hours 30 minutes. From Cedar City (near Zion National Park) to Salt Lake City is 5 hours, and to Los Angeles is 10 hours.

Getting Around Towns and Cities

In Salt Lake City, the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) (website: www.utabus.com) offers frequent bus services to the University of Utah campus, to Ogden, the suburbs, the airport and east to the mountain canyons and Provo. Journeys within downtown areas are free. Maps are available at libraries and the tourist office. UTA also runs the TRAX tram system. A number of taxi companies operate in the city.
