Approximate Flight Times
From Washington, DC to Honolulu is 13 hours 40 minutes, to London is 6 hours 50 minutes, and to Los Angeles is 5 hours 40 minutes.
Main Airports
Washington-Dulles International (IAD) (website: www.metwashairports.com) is 43km (27 miles) from the city, in Virginia (journey time - 50 minutes). To/from the airport: The Washington Flyer Coach Service operates between the airport and the West Falls Church Metrorail (subway) station. A Metrobus service is available at the station to areas not served by Metrorail. Taxis are also available. Facilities: ATMs, car hire and currency exchange.
Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) (website: www.bwiairport.com) is located 48km (30 miles) from Washington, DC (journey time - 40 minutes). To/from the airport: A frequent shuttle train service is provided between the airport terminal and the airport's own rail station (BWI Rail Station), where Amtrak and MARC services to the city are available. MARC trains also run to a number of other destinations. A SuperShuttle bus departs from the lower level; services to other destinations are also available. Metrobus express route B30 runs to Green Belt Metrorail station. The Greenbelt Metrorail station connects to other stations throughout the city, as well as Virginia, Montgomery and Prince George Counties. Getting There by Rail
Amtrak (tel: 1 800 872 7245, in the USA only; website: www.amtrak.com) operates long-distance services through Washington, DC. The principal corridor is the New York-Philadelphia-Baltimore-Washington, DC route, with frequent fast trains. There are also routes to Chicago via Pittsburgh or Cincinnati; New Orleans via Charlotte and Atlanta; and Miami via Raleigh or Charleston. There are also local trains to the Philadelphia area. The journey time to New York is 3 hours by Metroliner or 2 hours 45 minutes on the Amtrak Acela Express. The main station is Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE.
Getting There by Road
Greyhound (tel: 1 800 231 2222, in the USA only; website: www.greyhound.com) services arrive and depart from the modern bus terminal at 1005 First Street, NE, directly behind Union Station.

The Metro (subway) system offers quick and comfortable transport within the city centre; fares are zonal with a surcharge during peak hours. Lines extend into the suburban areas of Maryland and northern Virginia. There are also suburban and central bus services. It is possible to transfer from Metro to bus without additional charge (except during rush hour), but not from bus to Metro.
Taxis are available within the city area; fares are again zonal (and comparatively cheap by big-city standards). Most major car and camper van hire agencies have offices in Washington, DC.
