Summers are warm with cool nights. Winters are cold and snowy, especially around the Great Lakes where conditions can be severe. Winter temperatures of minus 40ºC (-40ºF) or lower are common in the north, and summer temperatures are often above 30ºC (90ºF) in the south of the state.
